if you have ever been involved in helping a kid make the transition from diapers to underwear, you must have thought once (or a million times) what a simple yet profound thing it is to wear underwear. grown ups take these sorts of things for granted. not so much when you're helping a little grown-up-in-the-making wade through the diaper-to-underwear wearing world.
perhaps you get up to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night. simple enough. you might have your eyes half-opened with the end goal of jaunting back under the covers as your goal (the sooner the better). one little person that lives in my house literally didn't know it was possible to get out of the big kid bed in general. his choice tonight was to wear underwear overnight. and there's a prize if he doesn't "leak" between bedtime and wake-up potty time. now he knows he can get out of bed -- to go potty. he made great use of this ability just awhile ago. the toilet flushed and little feet scurried MANY times in a very short time frame.
freedom. growing up. development. newness.
ah, the little things in life....
