terror

it's a hot sunny afternoon
the kids just fell asleep, or at least they're resting
the hub and i are doing our respective afternoon mellow stuff
when there's crazy, insane barking across the street
the house that had squatters for a very long time is now occupied
and i was thankful that the renters have dogs, even pitbulls
but the few peeks i took a short time ago was like a scene from a horror movie
three pitbulls, 1 mutt
they were ganging up on the mutt who was just returning from its daily walk with her owner
loud barking, shrieking
two of the pitbulls were somehow pulled out of the scene of attack
but one.  the big, grey and white spotted one, would not let go of the mutts neck
many people and many bats/sticks and many tactics and many minutes before that big old dog was finally pulled off
but it was brutal
the freakiest experience that i mostly didn't see (for lots of reasons)

other neighbors who live a few blocks away own more than one pitbull
and they work hard at restoring the reputation of that dog breed
and their dogs are pretty cool

the questions i ask are
about that mutt -- will she make it?
the pitbulls -- how did they get out of their enclosed property
will they stay around when it is clear that the big one is not safe (and there are lot of kids and people and dogs around here)?
what does shalom look like in this situation?

have mercy
