surprises

you know how you're not supposed to make assumptions and stereotype others but you do? i'm confessing that as much as i try not to do that and teach others the same thing, i still fail at this. consistently.
there are a certain group of people that live somewhere in the neighborhood. i see them on a regular basis. mostly i have questions and curiosities about them. but there are some assumptions i've made and stereotypes i've placed on them. (repentance in process)
sometimes i'd like to just go and ask them these questions and dispel the rumors i've created based on my observations with some extra creativity mixed in.
but the funny thing about assumptions and stereotypes is that you think you know something. even when you don't.
so what a surprise when this group showed up with some signage for an event that i was planning on going to. an event that, when i saw a sign on these particular neighbors lawn, literally left me with jaw.on.floor.
another neighbor had a similar response to this.
our assumptions are challenged and we're open to see what kind of surprises god has in store for us and our neighborhood as a result of this event.
oh may god's kingdom come
in surprises
in unexpected ways
in people
in places
in repentance
may you enjoy and/or wrestle with some good surprises in the coming days!
