that's been my week.
with the stomach flu that has had me wash and dry (and re-wash) more loads of laundry than i'd care to recount, bathroom cleanings over and over, meal preparing (and no one eating meals depending on the day), unpacking from an urban ministry experience recently as well as from our family trip to see family and friends in las vegas, and getting up nights to care for barfing or weeping children -- i'm wiped out.
that doesn't count the work i've edged in on the side to prepare for many students coming to sactown in a couple of weeks for more urban ministry or for the two weeks i'm preparing for in may (for the same thing). and while i've barely gotten out of bed some days this week, i have started mentally preparing for mayisbikemonth and looked over (and shared) hundreds of pictures and taken lots of pictures and worked on thank you notes and prayed and dreamed and emailed so much.
tomorrow one of my favorite groups is gathering to laugh and hike and journal and share and eat and pray and play together and this bug that won't leave my family (it's been a week, for crying out loud -- please leave!) is preventing me from joining them.
so i'll head to bed and think about the opportunities (AND EFFORT) that will come our way tomorrow.
and i'll be thinking about others whose lives are marked by extra effort -- brothers and sisters, friends and neighbors who expend so much more effort daily making choices about survival or safety or getting familiar with place or people or life.
here's hoping that tonight provides rest and tomorrow's effort is seen through a lens of hope and joy and abundance, as life was originally intended it to be all along.
this bird makes flying look effortless. but there is effort involved (in all things -- even sleeping)!
