tattoos

in the circles i run
there are lots of tattoos
not just the pretty butterfly or purposeful dove on the back or hip
but the kind that sort of spill out of your shirt
and wind around your neck up past your ear
(use your imagination. i think you get what i'm saying)
tattoos are an expression of the person who wears them
sometimes they are used for identifying
who you are
your affiliations
your interests
your relationships
they are fascinating
the people who live (or frequent) the area i live in
have stories
that are partially worn
sometimes i wish i could "read" their stories
but i'm tattoo illiterate
not 100%
but i haven't learned tattoo speak
it's a language i'm curious about
but not sure if i will learn or not
and sometimes think i'd like to know what they mean
and other times i'm unsure
i do know they carry stories and meaning
